The van Delden Tool
The van Delden tool. Is that even it’s real name?
It is what we called it, sitting in a kitchen drawer, always to hand.
Where did it come from? I am not sure.
I think that my parents might have picked it up somewhere in Europe during the late sixties or early seventies.
For us growing up it was always there. Indestructible and useful.
A combination of :
- cutting plyers
- wire stripper
- nut cracker
- jar opener
- screwdriver
- bottle opener
With my parents divorce, it went with my mother’s household.
On her death, it was the only thing that my sister and I came close to disagreeing on who got to keep it.
She gracefully gave it to me and it now sits in our kitchen drawer.
Still useful and indestructible after fifty plus years.
Looking at its photo it has clearly done its share of hard work.
